Roberts Recipient Of Res Scholaris Lifetime Achievement Commendation
One highlight at the University of Louisiana at Monroe's Faculty Honors banquet, held Friday night, was the announcement of the Res Scholaris Lifetime Achievement Commendation. ULM President James Cofer presented the award to Dr. George Roberts, Professor of Clinical Laboratory Science in ULM's College of Allied Health and Rehabilitation Professions. Dr. Roberts will be the subject and cover of an in-depth career profile in the next issue of Res Scholaris, ULM's award-winning research journal. The Banquet was held Friday, April 26 at the Monroe Civic Center at 6:30 p.m.
"An exemplary role model for his colleagues as well as his students, Dr. Roberts exhibits those characteristics that mark the successful senior member of a university faculty," said President Cofer when presenting the award. "His work in the health sciences furthers the body of knowledge in this vital area of public health."
Dr. Roberts has amassed a long and distinguished career in the field of Clinical Laboratory Science and has dedicated his life to the pursuit of advancing the field of medical technology. His research has focused upon five key areas:
* Variables affecting clinical laboratory tests
* Hemolytic disease among the newborn
* B-Prolymphocytic Leukemia
* Lyme Disease
* Infectious Mononucleosis
He has been recognized for his expertise by being appointed by the National Credentialing Agency (NCA) for Medical Laboratory Personnel to serve as Chair for the Immunology/Immunohematology Portion of the NCA Examination Council. As Chair, Dr. Roberts oversees all aspects of the national examination relative to immunology. This selection by his peers marks their acknowledgement that Dr. Roberts is one of the leading national experts in this area.
Dr. Roberts is sought by others in related professions including nursing, dental hygiene, pharmacy, and radiologic technology because of his expertise with venipuncture procedures. He has taught a course through the ULM Office of Continuing Education for several years and has trained literally hundreds of professionals in proper venipuncture procedures.
Dr. Roberts has published in such prestigious publications as the Drug Interactions Handbook , The Journal of Pharmacy Technology, Canadian Intravenous Nurses Association, and The Protocol for Standardization of Biological Monitoring of Cadmium for the Occupational Health and Safety Administration of the U.S. Government. He has over 90 refereed publications during a 24-year career focusing upon infectious diseases, clinical education, and clinical procedures.
The Faculty Honors banquet marked the final event of a week-long series of activities saluting faculty excellence at ULM. Sponsored by the ULM Alumni Association, the annual Faculty Honors banquet celebrates the accomplishments of outstanding professors at the University.
