World Aids Day to be recognized by ULM SGA and Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc.

The University of Louisiana at Monroe Student Government Association in conjunction with Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. will hold a World AIDS Day program on campus on Dec. 4, Tuesday, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. It will be on the second floor of the Student Union Building.

World AIDS Day has been recognized all across the globe since December 1, 1988. It was started to increase awareness about the disease.

The program will include speaker Kay Payne from GoCare. Payne will talk about prevention of the disease. There are also plans for a singer, a moment of silence and a trombone solo by Dr. Blaine, Iota Phi Theta's faculty advisor. Red ribbons will be passed out and there will also be refreshments.

Everyone from the community is invited as well as ULM faculty, staff, and students.

ULM senior and SGA Vice President, Timothy Bush says, "It is important that we have a day of awareness on campus to let people know we care. Most students are members of a number of service organizations on the campus and I feel this is a vital service to the community- to increase awareness about AIDS." Bush is also President of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc.
