ULM offering summer science program

A specially designed summer program which gives high school students a hands-on experience in the basic sciences is being offered by the University of Louisiana at Monroe's College of Pure and Applied Sciences.

The ULM Pre-College Biological Research Program is being funded through ULM's Howard Hughes Undergraduate Biological Sciences Education Program grant.

All students with an interest in science and who are entering their senior year, as well as high school biology teachers, are invited to apply. Space is limited to 40 students and eight teachers.

Students receive a tuition exemption, a $1,000 stipend and three hours of college credit. Teachers receive tuition exemption, a $2,000 stipend and three hours of graduate college credit. There is also optional free housing available for students and teachers who reside beyond a 30-mile radius from ULM.

The ULM Pre-College Biological Research Program begins Monday, June 4 and concludes Thursday, June 28. Students and teachers will participate in science projects from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Thursday.

Interested students must apply for admission to the University of Louisiana at Monroe through the Summer Collegiate Program. Applications to the Summer Collegiate Program are available at area high schools.
