Sabin Presented RES Scholaris Lifetime Achievement Award

Another winner at Friday night's Faculty Honors Banquet at the University of Louisiana at Monroe was Dr. Linda Sabin who was presented the Res Scholaris Lifetime Achievement Award, becoming the 11th individual to achieve this designation.

This award honors the career accomplishments and life of an outstanding member of the senior faculty. Sabin will be featured on the cover and in a "Reflections" profile in Res Scholaris 2001, scheduled for distribution later in the year.

A holder of a BSN degree from Syracuse University, Sabin received her MA in American History at the University of Florida and her Ph. D. from the University of Mississippi. A gifted professional nurse and educator, Sabin is also a practicing nurse historian and artist. Her research is focused on the growth and development of the nursing profession and she uses her art to create dolls dressed in period uniforms that chronicle the emergence of nursing as a profession.

For over 25 years Sabin has researched various aspects of nursing and she has donated the dolls for fundraisers which have helped raise scholarship funds, research funds and money to establish a nursing history journal.

Today, Sabin's dolls can be found both in collections throughout the United States as well as in the hands of her former students. Recently, the University of Virginia School of Nursing commissioned Sabin to create 30 original porcelain and vinyl sculpted dolls for their centennial celebration as a teaching tool for a new generation of students to learn about their unique history in Virginia.
