LSU Chancellor Emmert to address ULM graduates
Dr. Mark A. Emmert, Chancellor of Louisiana State University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, will address the first University of Louisiana at Monroe graduating class of the 21st century tomorrow, May 13, during ULM Commencement Ceremonies. Commencement begins at 2 p.m. at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
As chief executive officer of the largest campus of the LSU System, Emmert is responsible for all elements of administration of the Research I, land-grant, sea-grant and space-grant university with an enrollment of 30,000 students.
Prior to becoming the sixth Chancellor of LSU, Emmert served as Chancellor of the University of Connecticut. He had previously served as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Montana State University and held various faculty and administrative positions at the University of Colorado.
A recipient of fellowships from the Fulbright Commission and the American Council on Education, Emmert has also been inducted into Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Alpha Lambda Delta Scholastic Society, Golden Key Honor Society and the Connecticut Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Emmert's scholarly work has focused on public policy topics as well as issues in organization theory. He has published his research in leading journals within his field and has served on several editorial boards.
Emmert holds Ph.D. and Master's degrees in public affairs from the Maxwell School of Syracuse University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Washington.
