ULM presents "Hello Dolly"
One of the longest running musicals in Broadway history, "Hello, Dolly!" will be presented by the University of Louisiana at Monroe Concert Series, Thursday, Feb. 24. The production will be at 7:30 p.m. in the Monroe Civic Center Theatre.
Mainstage Productions, L.L.C. brings Broadway's most beloved matchmaker "Back where she belongs" in this all new production. Filled with marvelous melodies such as "Put On Your Sunday Clothes," "Before the Parade Passes By," and the title hit, "Hello Dolly!" this witty tale about an extraordinary woman who can arrange anything, continues to enchant audiences everywhere.
"Hello, Dolly!" tells the story of a busybody widow, Dolly Levi, who makes a living as a meddling matchmaker in the horse and buggy era of New York City. She sets out to arrange a marriage between Irene Molloy, a lovely widowed New York milliner, and Horace Vandergelder, a rich curmudgeon of a Yonkers merchant. Dolly leaves a whirlwind of merry mix-ups in her wake as midway through her attempts to play Cupid she decides to grab Vandergelder for herself.
"Hello, Dolly!" opened on Broadway in 1964 and ran through 1970. The first production won an all-time record 10 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, as well as the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best Musical.
