The Late Henry A. Little ULM Golden Arrow Award Recipient
Henry A. Little, a former president of the University of Louisiana at Monroe Alumni Association who was instrumental in arranging for the current Anna Gray Noe Alumni Center, was posthumously awarded the Golden Arrow Award Thursday night at ceremonies at the University Conference Center.
The Golden Arrow Award is the highest honor bestowed upon an ULM alumni for outstanding personal and professional achievement. Little's widow, Jackie Little, accepted the award on behalf of her husband who passed away in January, 1999.
"Henry was the kind of gentleman that was always 'at the ready' to help somebody that needed help," Tom Nicholson, President of the Ouachita Economic Development Corporation and the 1998 Golden Arrow Award winner, said during the presentation. "Much of what Henry did for the University was behind the scenes, in many countless ways. That is why he is so missed."
Little graduated from what was then Northeast Louisiana State College in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. He went on to become CEO and Owner of Little and Company, CPA.
As an active supporter of ULM, Little served as a member of various Alumni Association Committees, an Associate Level Member of the ULM Annual Fund, a member of the ULM Foundation Investment Committee and was a member of the Athletic Scholarship Foundation. He was the President of the Alumni Association in 1974-75.
"Henry was a dedicated ULM graduate who contributed to the University until his untimely death," Judge Jimmy Dimos, who attended ULM with Little, said. "In business he was an extremely good accountant, but more than that he was a personal adviser and a friend."
Throughout his life, Little was active in civic activities. He served the United Way, Boy Scouts, Lions Club, and Dixie Youth Baseball among others. Professionally, Little was a member of numerous organizations including the American Institute of CPA's and the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry.
Lillian Brown was named as the 1999 Service Award recipient. Brown, who works in ULM's College of Pharmacy, was singled out for her years of service to on and off-campus civic organizations.
Brown is currently in her second term as Chairman of the Board for the Twin City Jaycees and she has chaired or co-chaired numerous events like "Paint the Twin Cities," "Mervyns of California's ChildSpree," and the St. Judes Children's Hospital Fundraiser -- Scavenger Hunt.
Also honored was the Franklin Parish Chapter of the ULM Alumni Association as the "Alumni Chapter of the Year." Glen and Jo Ann Williams of Winnsboro serve as co-Presidents of the Franklin Chapter, which was recognized for its high participation, loyalty and enthusiasm in supporting ULM.
