MONROE, LA – Due to an excessive heat warning issued by the National Weather Service, the University of Louisiana Monroe has altered plans for its annual freshman convocation. The convocation will still take place Wednesday, August 23 at 4:30 p.m.
This year’s convocation will not feature a march across the bridge. Instead, doors to Fant-Ewing Coliseum will open at 4:30 p.m., with the convocation ceremony beginning promptly at 4:45 p.m. Freshmen and other attendees are encouraged to make their way to Fant-Ewing Coliseum safely. Water will be available for students as they arrive at convocation.
Additionally, the pep rally featuring ULM spirit groups and the Sound of Today marching band will now take place in Fant-Ewing Coliseum immediately following the convocation ceremony. The pep rally had previously been scheduled for Malone Stadium.
Convocation is not only open to first-time freshmen, but also all students new to ULM and any returning students who wish to attend.
President Ron Berry will address the students, along with featured ULM alumna guest speaker Kelsea McCrary, Student Government Association President David Hernandez, and Campus Activities Board President Carlos Moses.
Convocation Schedule:
