For the fifth consecutive year, U.S. News & World Report recognized the University
of Louisiana Monroe as a Best National University in the 2021 U.S. News Best Colleges report released in September.

ULM is among more than 1,400 colleges and universities evaluated on 17 measures of
academic quality. The data used to determine the rankings is before the pandemic.
Best National Universities
Only 389 schools are in the Best National Universities category. In 2016, ULM advanced
from a Regional University to a National University by the Carnegie Classification
of Institutions of Higher Education. Schools in the National Universities category
offer a full range of undergraduate majors, plus master's and doctoral programs. These
colleges also are committed to producing groundbreaking research.
“We are honored to again be ranked as one of the Best National Universities,” said
President Dr. Ronald Berry. “This ranking, for the fifth year, confirms that ULM has
a national standing in academics, faculty, programs, and research. My sincere thanks
goes to our faculty and staff whose work led to this designation.”
Top Performers on Social Mobility
ULM is included for the second year in the ranking for Top Performers on Social Mobility,
which recognizes how well colleges and universities serve low-income students. Using
Pell Grants as a proxy measure, the ranking looks at enrollment and graduation rates
of low-income students. Social Mobility is a new category that started in the 2020
rankings.

ULM ranks in the leading 120 of the National Universities in this category.

Top Public Schools
For the first time, ULM was named to the Top Public Schools rankings. ULM is one of
only five Louisiana public institutions of higher learning to receive a Top Public
Schools ranking in the Best National Universities category.
ULM Online
More than 1,200 online programs at accredited institutions were surveyed by USNWR,
and three ULM Online programs earned top rankings. ULM Online ranked in Best Online MBA Programs, Best
Online Bachelor’s Programs, and Best Online Master’s in Nursing Programs.
ULM Graduate School
ULM’s Graduate School achieved several top rankings in the 2021 report. The categories include Best Education
Schools, Best Nursing Schools: Master’s, Biological Sciences, Occupational Therapy,
Pharmacy, and Speech-Language Pathology.
