MONROE – Following the retirement of Dean Sandra Lemoine, the University of Louisiana
Monroe is proud to welcome Dr. John M. Pratte as the newest addition to their administrative
staff. Pratte will take over the duties as Dean of the College of Arts, Education,
and Sciences on July 2, 2018, and will oversee the schools of Education, Humanities,
Sciences and Visual and Performing Arts. A total of 13 undergraduate degree programs
and 12 graduate degree programs are offered through the College.
Pratte joins ULM with 25 years of experience in higher education, most recently as Professor of Physics at Arkansas State University. Before that, he served in increasingly more responsible administrative positions at ASU and as a faculty member at both Kennesaw State University and Clayton State University. Pratte’s professional career began as a geophysicist with Shell Oil Company. His work to improve science education has been funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Education and the National Center for Science and Civic Engagement.
ULM Vice President for Academic Affairs Eric Pani stated, “I am pleased that we have
hired someone with Dr. Pratte’s experience and success. His background in education
and the sciences is well suited for the College and his administrative experience
has prepared him to assume his duties quickly and carry them out skillfully.”
"It is a tremendous honor and privilege to be selected as the ULM Dean of Arts, Education,
and Sciences. Over the past decade, ULM has been one of the rare institutions that
have successfully navigated the hurdles that face modern academia while forging a
mission that fits the needs of both the students and the region and state," Pratte
said. "I look forward with great anticipation to joining this great learning community
to help continue this success over the coming decade and beyond. As a native of Louisiana,
I also look forward to having great gumbo once again."
