In March, Jones contributed his 28th and final article in the series, commemorating the Civil War’s sesquicentennial.
The article, “Could the South Have Won the War?” examines whether or not the Confederacy had a reasonable chance to win the Civil War. Jones examines various “what if” scenarios and concludes that the South was doomed to failure.
Having received over 200 readers’ comments in just three days, it became one of the series’ most discussed articles.
Jones, a native of Winn Parish, has served ULM for over 22 years as a professor. He earned a Ph.D. in history from Texas A&M University.
