Initiates must have a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) in Spanish courses, and a 3.2 GPA overall. Students must also have 18 credit hours of Spanish, including a course either in literature or culture and civilization.
The initiates include: Erin Foster, a communication major from Houston, Texas; Catherine Schilling, a biology major from Lakewood, Colo.; Madeline Webb, a modern languages major from Shreveport; Anthony Archield, a history major from Lawrenceville, Ga.; and Walter Kipp, a radiologic technology major from New Iberia.
The ceremony was conducted by President Delia Valerio; Vice President Iren Marinova; and Secretary Wesley Welch. The officers were assisted by Sigma Delta Pi member Sarah Hayes.
Sigma Delta Pi was established to recognize the accomplishments of Spanish-learning students.
The national organization was founded on Nov. 14, 1919, and the Lambda Sigma Chapter at ULM was founded 38 years ago.
