ULM salutes its veterans Nov. 11

Sponsored by the University of Louisiana at Monroe Office of Career Connections, an event to honor the military service of ULM faculty, staff, and students will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 11, in the University Conference Center, located on the 7th floor of the ULM Library.

Kyle O’Neal, from ULM’s Office of Career Connections said, “The ceremony serves as an opportunity for our university to show its appreciation and continued support of those service members who gave of themselves for the betterment of our community, state, and nation.”

The featured guest speaker for the event is Brigadier General Dr. Charles Chappuis, the Assistant Adjutant General for the Louisiana Air National Guard.

The event is free and open to the public.

ULM veterans in attendance will be recognized for their service and presented with a ribbon of recognition.

The program will include ULM President Dr. Nick J. Bruno, and Brian Sivils will perform the National Anthem. Students from the Ouachita Parish High School ROTC will serve as Color Guard.

Dr. Ruth Smith, director of the School of Humanities, will present on the historical significance of the occasion.

Community representatives will also be in attendance.

About Brigadier General Charles Chappuis:

Brigadier General Dr. Charles Chappuis is the Assistant Adjutant General – Air, Joint Force Headquarters, Louisiana National Guard. He is responsible for the formulation of policy pertaining to administration and training of over 1,500 Louisiana Air National Guardsmen and serves as the principle advisor to The Adjutant General on matters pertaining to the Louisiana Air National Guard.

General Chappuis holds a Doctorate of Medicine from Louisiana State University School of Medicine and has served as the Chief of Clinical Services, Commander of the 159th Medical Group, State Surgeon, and State Air Surgeon, Louisiana National Guard.

General Chappuis deployed four times in support of Operation Iraqi and Enduring Freedom and led the 159th Medical Group in the relief effort at the Louisiana Superdome following Hurricane Katrina. He currently holds the academic rank of Professor of Clinical Surgery, Louisiana State University School of Medicine and is Chief of Surgery and Associate Medical Director at University Hospital and Clinics in Lafayette, Louisiana.
