The Louisiana Small Business Development Center, hosted by the University of Louisiana
at Monroe and the Louisiana Healthcare Education Coalition are joining forces to educate
small businesses about the Affordable Care Act.
“The Affordable Care Act is something that all small businesses should be aware of,”
said Rande Kessler, LSBDC state director.
“Our goal is to help small businesses across Louisiana better understand how the new
laws may have an impact on their business, as well as equip them to make informed
decisions.”
The presentation, titled “Navigating the Affordable Care Act,” will take place from
8:30-10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the Anna Gray Noe Alumni Center, located at
4400 Bon Aire Drive in Monroe on the ULM campus.

The seminar will cover key small business provisions of the federal healthcare law
and the new Health Insurance Marketplace, which opened Oct. 1.
Specific topics include: Four questions employers must ask themselves; new rules for
applicable large employers; definition of Affordable Coverage; taxes and penalties;
grandfathering and current benefits to groups; and employee notification procedures.
