Photography is the capture and control of light on sensitized surfaces; it can produce the ultimate slice of reality or new heights of abstraction. It can extend the limitations of our visible spectrum and allow us to see the very fast, the very small, or the very faraway. Photography is the most widely used vehicle of visual communication through description, documentation, persuasion and creative expression.
Student photographers master the equipment, materials and procedural relationships of traditional black and white and color photography, as well as more exotic photographic techniques. Their training includes the physics of light, darkroom design and chemistry, digital photographic techniques, aesthetic lighting and composition for fine art photographic statements and commercial applications. ULM photographers graduate with the skill and perceptive ability to embark on successful careers in photography and related fields.
